History

Wushu’s modern history began in 1949 when the Chinese government standardized traditional martial arts. Earlier attempts to unify these diverse styles had failed, but in 1958, the All-China Wushu Association successfully formalized martial arts training.

By 1990, the International Wushu Federation was founded, promoting both modern Wushu and traditional Chinese martial arts globally.

Focus

Wushu, a blend of traditional martial arts, combines performance with combat techniques. It includes weapon forms and bare-handed styles, emphasising flexibility, speed, strength, and precision. Practitioners master flawless techniques that balance form and function, creating a dynamic display of strikes, kicks, and weapons.

At the Shuaimeng Liu Martial Arts Centre, we focus on competitive Wushu, training students in forms judged by established points systems. These routines incorporate elements like punches, kicks, sweeps, and jumps, rooted in traditional Chinese martial arts.

Advantages

Wushu training provides the practitioner with a broad appreciation for the Chinese martial arts, and promotes a deeper understanding of the applications and the histories of the arts from which it draws inspiration.

It also develops practical physical fitness, valuing flexibility, balance, quickness, and core strength.
